From our modest beginnings huddled in a New York City apartment all the way to our soon-to-be-aired ninth season on PBS, our organization has built a rich history and legacy since our founding in 1997.
This year marks the 21st anniversary of our founding—cause for us to honor our past and celebrate a legacy still in the making.
Our 21st anniversary celebration kicks off today and carries on throughout the year, guided by three programming milestones: our first-ever gala event honoring Art21 founder Susan Sollins and artist Julie Mehretu; the premiere of a new ninth season of our Peabody Award-winning series Art in the Twenty-First Century on PBS; and the publishing of a new book of artist interviews assembled from Art21’s comprehensive archive.
These achievements signal the organization’s continued dedication to recognizing artists as role models for creative and critical thinking.
Throughout the year, we will also introduce special programming across Art21’s digital and social channels, highlighting both celebrated and discoverable moments from throughout the organization’s history.
Keep an eye on our news feed and subscribe to our emails to stay up to date on our 21st anniversary celebrations. Join us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to share your favorite Art21 moments with us using #Art21Turns21.
Finally, catch up with our latest films, all of which premiered as part of a special winter film series that started off our 21st anniversary year.
