In a new film from our Extended Play digital series, Damián Ortega recounts the origins of Alias Editorial, his book publishing and translation project that brings English-language texts to Spanish-speaking regions.
Filmed in his Mexico City studio, Damián Ortega recalls his early career as a cartoonist and his struggles to find Spanish-language resources on contemporary art as a young artist. “My generation didn’t have any of this information about contemporary art,” says the artist. “It was a time when we didn’t have the internet, we didn’t have cell phones. We used to share information through photocopies, through books.”
