In art, like in poetry, there are moments of many opposite forces converging all in one place. There are no easy answers to these moments of tension. It is in all the contradictions existing at once that artists find an activated space to create.

How artists deal with these tensions—of materials, of ideas, or even of social issues—might reveal itself in the meaning or the appearance of a work. The films in this playlist demonstrate the creative ways in which artists play with tensions.
