Chiemi Karasawa Director

Chiemi Karasawa is an award-winning Director-Producer and founder of Isotope Films based in Brooklyn, NY.  Notable documentary credits include:  Aretha Franklin Amazing Grace (Neon), AKA Jane Roe (FX Network), Elaine Stritch: Shoot Me (IFC), Blue Note Records: Beyond the Notes, The Betrayal: Nerakhoon (POV), and Billy The Kid (HBO).  Her films have premiered at Sundance, Berlin, SXSW, Tribeca, and Venice Film Festivals, garnered an Emmy Award, Oscar nomination and numerous festival awards. She has guest lectured at The New School, SVA, Boston University, SFAI and NYU on Documentary Film,  and is a member of the Documentary Branch of the Academy for Motion Picture Arts & Sciences (AMPAS).   She is currently at work on a feature documentary about Nobel Peace Prize Nominee Amanda Nguyen.
