Weekly Watchlist: See the World Through a New Lens

Luchita Hurtado and the joy of life

While painting en plein air in a Los Angeles park, Hurtado elucidates on the tenuous relationship between humans and nature.

“We’re all on this planet together and we’re all related,” said the artist. “To be in this park, with these trees, it’s just the joy of life.”

How can an artist be a catalyst for change?

“Art is this one arena of life where anything goes, where there’s no set rules,” says the artist. “Maybe there’s a way that I can find the care and love that I want to put out into the world through art. I want to figure out ways in which art could expand outside of how it’s been structured in the past.”

“There’s obviously limitations, but theoretically, the possibility of art is endless.”
