New Video: Minerva Cuevas Builds a Bridge Where Trump Wants a Wall

In today’s episode from the Art21 Exclusive digital series, Minerva Cuevas considers the implications of President Trump’s proposed border wall, and reflects on her work Crossing of the Rio Bravo.

In 2010, Cuevas painted a bridge across a riverbed that divides Mexico and the United States to create Crossing of the Rio Bravo. Though she believes that projects like hers can help us rethink our perceptions, the artist knows that collective action is necessary to enact lasting change.

“Books and projects can be important, but they won’t be a solution. The problems or the crisis in the world is generated by everybody. So it has to be also a massive reaction.”
