The excitement begins with the opening night at Metrograph with a red carpet hour that will welcome esteemed artists, filmmakers, trustees, and devoted Art21 supporters. The highlight of this evening will be the premiere screening of “Friends and Strangers,” the much-anticipated third and final episode of Season 11 of Art in the Twenty-First Century featuring Linda Goode Bryant, Miranda July, Christine Sun Kim, and Cannupa Hanska Luger. The presence of artists and filmmakers, including “Friends and Strangers” director Chiemi Karasawa and featured artists Miranda July and Cannupa Hanska Luger, will create an opportunity for attendees to interact with the creative minds behind the episode. The evening will conclude with an afterparty with DJ Jennifly, where attendees will have the chance to mingle with fellow art aficionados, indulge in delectable refreshments and cocktails, and engage in meaningful conversations with artists and filmmakers.

We’re thrilled to offer this in-person opportunity to Art21 fans to make connections with contemporary artists and filmmakers, as well as engage with other art lovers.”

The excitement continues on the second night at SVA Theatre, where attendees will be treated to a look into the life of artist H.C. Westermann through the 3-D film premiere of “Westermann: Memorial to the Idea of Man If He Was an Idea,” executive produced by the artist KAWS, narrated by Ed Harris, and scored by Laurie Anderson and Kronos Quartet. This film will be followed by a captivating conversation with artists Trenton Doyle Hancock and Aaron Curry and director of the film Leslie Buchbinder. The night will also feature a curated selection of films hosted by filmmaker, writer, and artist Miranda July and a diverse collection of films and digital content paying homage to art and artists.
