Art21 to Release New Film: “Naudline Pierre: A Place Other Than Here”
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, May 8, 2024
New York, New York – Art21 is proud to announce the release of a new film: “Naudline Pierre: A Place Other Than Here” premiering Wednesday, May 15th at 12:00 p.m. ET on Art21.org and YouTube. The fourth 2024 release of Art21’s digital film series, New York Close Up, “Naudline Pierre: A Place Other Than Here,” explores the large-scale paintings and mystical influences of the New York City-based artist.
Whether painting in her Brooklyn studio or roaming amidst the medieval artworks at The Met Cloisters, artist Naudline Pierre reframes traditional representations of religion and spirituality, finding freedom in a world of her own making—where the airborne and earthbound coexist and cooperate.
“Fantasy for me is survival,” says Naudline Pierre in the film. “It’s not just pleasure, it’s essential. It has been for my whole life.”
“Making this film was akin to being granted access to Naudline’s realm,” says Haimy Assefa, the film’s director. “Her embrace of fantasy not only influenced our cinematography but also sparked experimental elements within the film. We seized cinematic opportunities to warp reality at times, inviting viewers on a journey into the fantastical.”
Tune in to the premiere of “Naudline Pierre: A Place Other Than Here” on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. ET at Art21.org and on Art21’s YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/art21org. To learn more, email Art21 Senior Manager of Communications, Hannah DeGarmo, at [email protected].
