Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg describe the spontaneity in generating ideas for their animated films in this preview of the upcoming Berlin episode from Season 9 of the Art in the Twenty-First Century television series.
Seen at work in their Berlin studio, the artists explore similar approaches to their individual creative processes. “It’s not so interesting if I know everything that’s going to happen in the animation,” says Djurberg. “I lose interest in it, because then I’ve already seen it in my head.” Adds Berg, “It’s more about letting things pop up and just knowing which things to grab.”
Season 9 of Art in the Twenty-First Century premieres September 21 at 9:00 p.m. on PBS. Berlin airs September 21 at 10:00 p.m.
