In a new film from our Extended Play digital series (the fifth of our Summer of Shorts film premieres) artist Jeff Wall considers photography’s unique position within the art historical canon. In painting, sculpture, and even film, the artist argues that it does not occur to viewers to question the depicted subjects—factually or historically—in the same way that one would with a photograph.
The artist explains this discrepancy while describing the motivation behind his 2014 photograph Changing Room, which captures an impossible angle from the mirror of a Barney’s dressing room.
