Winter / Spring 2025 Internships

Art21 is now accepting applications for our winter/spring 2025 internship program! 

Art21 is a celebrated global leader in presenting thought-provoking and sophisticated content about contemporary art, and the go-to place to learn first-hand from the artists of our time. A nonprofit organization, Art21’s mission is to educate and expand access to contemporary art through the production of documentary films, resources, and public programs.

Internships at Art21 offer individuals a unique opportunity to learn about contemporary art, art education, public programs, fundraising, and arts administration. Interns are an important part of the Art21 community and are given exposure to all aspects of the organization. 

The winter/spring 2025 program will be both remote and in-person.

Art21 offers a stipend to all participating interns. 


Curatorial Intern 

Art21 is seeking a Curatorial Intern to work from the week of February 17 to June 20, 2025. The deadline to apply is January 24, 2025.  

Art21’s Curatorial intern will work closely with the Assistant Curator in the planning and execution of a range of short- and long-term projects. The intern will research and assemble materials on existing and prospective artists, draft correspondence for film licensing opportunities, maintain database information, draft web content for Art21’s digital publication, and provide support with administrative tasks.

Applicants should have a high attention to detail and be organized, motivated, and self-directed. Strong writing and research skills are required. 

Required skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Excellent people skills
  • Self-directed research skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work to a deadline
  • Experience with Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, and Slides) or equivalent word processing software

Interns are asked to commit to working 2 days per week.

This internship will be conducted remotely and applicants should be prepared to provide their own computer, equipped with video conferencing capabilities, for the duration of the internship. 

Interns receive a $3,840 stipend for the 16-week internship, half of which is given the first and last week.

Development Intern 

Art21 is seeking a Development Intern to work from February 10 to May 28, 2025. The deadline to apply is January 24, 2025.  

The development intern will work closely with the development team on various projects related to the organization’s fundraising activities. Primary activities for the Spring 2025 internship will include general administrative tasks, database maintenance, prospect research, and supporting cultivation events. In addition, the intern will gain experience developing proposals for individuals and foundations, grant reports, and appeals. 

Applicants should have strong writing and research skills and a high attention to detail. They should also be detail-oriented, organized, motivated, and self-directed. Knowledge of contemporary art and familiarity with Raiser’s Edge NXT (or other CRM) are preferred.

An excellent learning opportunity, the Art21 Development Internship will provide training and experience to individuals seeking to learn more about fundraising at an arts non-profit organization.

Interns are asked to commit to working two full days (16 hours) per week, both remotely and in person. We cannot accommodate half-day schedules. Applicants should be prepared to provide their own computer, equipped with video conferencing capabilities, for the duration of the internship.

Interns receive a $3,840 stipend for the 16-week internship, half of which is given the first and last week.
