On Tuesday, November 18, Art21 and DOC NYC co-presented a Filmmaker Celebration, marking the culmination of another incredible year in documentary storytelling. Now in its third year, the annual event is a rare in-person opportunity to gather Art21’s extraordinary network of independent directors, producers, editors, directors of photography, and others who have contributed significantly to our films over the years. The gathering also welcomed production professionals new to the organization, including many filmmakers screening at this year’s DOC NYC.
With over 140 people in attendance, colleagues old and new had a much-needed chance to eat, drink, meet, and unwind at the close of what has been an especially challenging year for the documentary production community. Beyond a social gathering, this event allows Art21 and filmmakers to foster collaborative relationships away from production demands, a vital practice that contributes immensely to the success of our films and our mission to uplift contemporary artists globally.
Guests in attendance included many of the independent filmmakers who have worked with Art21 throughout 2025: Danielle Davis, Rafael Salazar, Ava Wiland, and Russell Yaffe of RAVA Films; Bryan Chang, Eric Phillips Horst, Zara Serabian-Arthur, Jeff Sterrenberg, and Travis Wood of the Meerkat Media Cooperative; Directors Lydia Cornett, Adam Golfer, JM Harper, Ash Goh Hua, Cesar Martinez Barba, and Andrew Nadkarni.
