Art in the Twenty-First Century’s
Season 11 Premiere Screening of “Everyday Icons”

On Tuesday, February 22, 2023, Art21 hosted a private evening premiere of “Everyday Icons,” the first episode of Season 11 of Art in the Twenty-First Century. Hosted at the Tribeca Screening Room in New York City, the exciting red carpet event was attended by honored guests including artists, filmmakers, gallerists, Art21’s esteemed board members, as well as both new and long-time supporters.

With the help of Maartje Oldenburg, Jack Shainman, Jessica Silverman, and Hauser & Wirth Gallery, it was a magical celebration of the first in-person premiere for Art in the Twenty-First Century since 2019. We were privileged to have artists Rose B. Simpson and Amy Sherald in attendance—both featured in “Everyday Icons.” We were also joined by Art21 artists Jordan Casteel, and Abigail DeVille and Oliver Herring (who also serve as Art21 board members). In opening remarks introducing their segments in the film, Rose and Amy shared their experiences working with Art21 and spoke to the impact of Art21’s films on their education and development as artists.

Everyday Icons,” premieres online and on PBS on Friday, April 7, 2023. The hour explores artists who reflect on the aesthetic traditions and histories we encounter daily and features Amy Sherald, Rose B. Simpson, Alex Da Corte, and Daniel Lind-Ramos.
