Fall 2020 Internships

Art21 is now accepting applications for our fall 2020 internship program.

Internships at Art21 offer individuals a unique opportunity to learn about contemporary art, art education, public programs, fundraising, and arts administration. Interns are an important part of the Art21 community and are given exposure to all aspects of the organization.

The fall 2020 program will be remote. Undergraduate and graduate applicants from outside New York City are encouraged to apply. Please note that Art21 works in the Eastern Time Zone (ET). Selected candidates will be asked to work hours from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET. Interns are asked to commit to two days every week.

Art21 offers a small stipend to participating interns.


Fall 2020 Internships

Education Intern

The Education Internship will run from September 21 to December 11. The deadline to apply is September 7.

Art21’s Education intern will have the opportunity to work closely with Art21 staff on a range of projects, from teacher professional development to public screenings. The intern will assist in the planning and execution of various short- and long-term projects including Art21 Educators, Art21 Ambassadors, and Screening Society, maintaining database information, drafting correspondence and proposals, helping to design various outreach and educational materials, and providing support with administrative tasks.

Applicants should be detail oriented, organized, motivated, and self-directed. Strong writing and research skills are preferred.

Occasional evening and weekend work will be necessary.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work to a deadline
  • Experience with Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, and Slides) or equivalent word processing software

Curatorial Intern

The Curatorial Internship will run from September 21 to December 18. The deadline to apply is September 7.

Art21’s Curatorial intern will work closely with the Assistant Curator in the planning and execution of a range of short- and long-term projects. The intern will research and assemble materials on existing and prospective artists, assist in the planning and support of virtual public programs, draft correspondence for film licensing opportunities, maintain database information, and provide support with administrative tasks.

Applicants should have a high attention to detail and be organized, motivated, and self-directed. Strong writing and research skills are required.

Interns are asked to commit to working 2 days per week. Occasional evening work will be necessary for virtual public programs.

This internship will be conducted remotely and applicants should be prepared to provide their own computer, equipped with video conferencing capabilities, for the duration of the internship.
