This Week in Art 7.10-7.16: Artists Celebrate London’s Resilience

Last week six artists created souvenir covers of ES Magazine to celebrate the “resilience of London” in the wake of the Grenfell Tower fire and recent terror attacks. Wolfgang Tillmans, Anish Kapoor and Ai Weiwei were among the artists to participate—Ai selected a section from his large-scale piece Odyssey, a massive frieze depicting the historical mass displacement of refugees dating back to the Old Testament. The piece was recently unveiled in Jerusalem as part of his solo exhibition at the Israel Museum, Maybe, Maybe Not

  • Denmark’s Royal Library recently opened a new work by Marina Abramović. Entitled Method for Treasures, the sound installation was created to complement the library’s collection of stories and artifacts. Requiring viewers to hand over their phones and take off their shoes, the installation asks listeners to “devote themselves to a sensuous experience of the stories in the books.” On view through March 21, 2020.
