Tomorrow a new book on artist Kara Walker is being released by University of California Press. Written by the Getty Research Institute’s Head of Research Projects and Programs, Rebecca Peabody, Consuming Stories: Kara Walker and the imagining of American race uses Walker’s work to “investigate a range of popular storytelling traditions with roots in the nineteenth century and ramifications in the present.” Also in the news this week:

  • LONDON—An exhibition of work by the late Los Angeles artist Mike Kelley titled Framed and Frame is closing this Saturday, November 19 at Hauser & Wirth.
  • WELLINGTON, NEW ZEALAND—A major exhibition of work by Cindy Sherman is opening November 19 at City Gallery Wellington. Cindy Sherman will remain on view through March 19, 2017.
  • DUBAI—Laleh Khorramian’s new exhibition Saturns Neckless is on view through December 10 at The Third Line. The artist’s new body of work features portraits of alien and guardian beings “symbolic of an untiring fascination with that which is otherworldly, the unnameable, and of a timeless inner territory.” [Read a review in The National.]
